South Utah Grand Escalante National Monument - September 24 - 27 2021
Click on image to view more breathtaking picture ...
It is time to get back to nature. During this past year, isolated by the pandemic and quarantines, most of us have become somewhat disembodied and disconnected from nature and others. The purpose of this trip is to heal our souls through the power of being in nature and sharing our feelings and emotions in embodied process groups, while adhering to safety guidelines. We will be visiting and hiking different attractions in the local area as well as parts of Grand Escalante National Monument which is the largest natural preserve in the US with the most beautiful sandstone and slot canyon formations. Our primary intention behind the nature therapy trips, however, is personal growth. We are created to connect with others and we heal best in relationship with others. We believe that combining nature therapy with an embodied process group and therapy can provide the conduit to emotional health and personal growth. Participants heal directly through experience, but also indirectly by becoming a part of other group member's work and by observing the therapeutic process as an audience. After each work, all group members are given an opportunity to share what they experienced and observed. In this way, the process group both respects and supports each individual's growth and healing. Participants develop the skills to self-regulate and to use their core strengths to give voice to unexpressed experiences. Mindfulness practices are also included during the hikes and before the start of the process groups to bring the participants back to their bodies. Our nature therapy trips include hikes, sightseeings, mindfulness practices during the hikes, and embodied process group. This 3-night 4-day retreat offers full accommodations, breakfasts and most meals, park entrance fees, transportation (rental vans - volunteers to share the driving are needed). The introductory cost is $650.00 per person which includes accommodations, transportation, most meals, and all activities.

Program & Itinerary:
Friday September 24th, 2021 Departure: Friday 05:30 AM sharp from the Park & Ride; 18182 Culver Dr., Irvine, CA 92612.This is a 24/7 free Park & Ride next to Wholesome Choice, entrance is fromSandburg off of Culver Dr. Carpooling to and from your home is recommended. Please plan to be at the parking lot not later than 05:30 so that we can all settle in the cars and leave before 6. The reason for early departure is to avoid the freeway traffic in the morning as well as arriving at our destination before 3 PM so that we can have a short warm-up hike that afternoon. We will have our group introduction and discussion as well as our first brief group process, introductions, and discussion about the program before a light dinner.
Saturday September 25th, 2021 We will start with a hot breakfast at 7 AM. Participants will prepare and pack lunch sandwiches. The tentative plan is to go for a 4-hour hike in the Kanab area as well as sight-seeing attractions that are close by. We will do mindfulness practices during the hike. Upon return and before dinner, we will participate in an embodied group process. We will most likely have BBQ for dinner around 7 PM. Participants will then find time to socialize and take part in various group activities.
Sunday September 26th, 2021 We will start with a hot breakfast in the morning and will leave home early around 7:30 AM. We will prepare our lunch sandwiches at home and will then drive to Paria Canyon which is part of Grand Escalante National preserve (a 90 minute drive). This is a breathtaking 5-6 mile hike with easy slopes. We plan to be back by 3 PM so that we can participate in our mindfulness practices and embodied group processes before a hot dinner at 7 PM. Group activities will then follow.
Monday September 27th We will start with breakfast either at home or early on our way back, probably in Zion Canyon. Time permitting we will have a short group farewell and sharing of our experiences during the trip. We will not be leaving the area any later than 10 AM and expect to be back in Park & Ride before 6 PM. Participants will purchase lunch on the way back. Please note this is a general itinerary that can be changed and modified according to the appropriate needs of participants, weather conditions during the trip, and other unforeseen situations or conditions.
What to bring: We highly recommend bringing comfortable and sturdy hiking shoes, comfortable hiking pants and layers of clothing, hiking poles if you are used to them, hat, sunscreen, warm jacket (as lightweight as possible), small flashlight, lightweight rain gear, and of course your personal hygiene items and medications if any. You can bring your favorite snacks (extra to share if you wish), drink of your choice, and anything else that you are used to having on hikes in nature. We will provide water bottles. Bringing your sturdy water bottle is also recommended. There will be ample times/places for taking pictures during the hikes.
Please note we will be mindful of the different hiking strengths of the participants. Our hikes will generally be moderate. This is not a professional hiking trip, although hiking and spending time in nature is an important part of the program. We might split between two groups on some hikes to accommodate average speed for everyone. Also, there are many beautiful sights in the vicinity of where we stay. Those who may not wish to participate in some hikes will have lots to do in the area while waiting for the others to return.
Important notes: We need volunteers to share the driving with us, usually two drivers per car. We buy full collision insurance for the cars which covers everything including the deductibles in case of any mishaps. The driver's own insurance will cover the liability if need be. This is only a precaution.
Accommodations: We stay in vacation homes on this trip. This trip is now planned to contain a smaller group so that couples can have their own rooms and singles have a bed for certain (although sometimes two individuals may have to share a queen size bed). We do our best to provide comfortable sleeping conditions. Occasionally there are individuals who prefer using couches or air mattresses. There may be a queen bed and a single bed in a room so that a family or group of 3 can share. Please contact us first and wait for our response. Once confirmed availability, we will send you a link for registration and payment. Click here to contact us.

Nature Therapy May 28th - May 31st Trip to Big Basin Redwoods State Park in San Francisco Bay Area, CA
“Imagine a time when the whole peninsula from San Francisco to San Jose shall become one great city; then picture, at its very doorstep, this magnificent domain of redwood forests and running streams, the breathing place of millions of cramped and crowded denizens of the city.” – Carrie Stevens Walter, Sempervirens Club, 1901
This 3-night 4-day retreat includes full accommodations, breakfasts and most meals, park entrance fees, and transportation (rental vans - volunteers to share the driving are needed). Program includes hikes, sightseeing, mindfulness practices during the hikes, group discussion/process, and meditation. We will have hot meals for breakfast and dinner including BBQ and cold-cut sandwiches for our lunch.
We will be hiking the trails in Big Basin Redwood, California’s oldest state park. In the heart of the Santa Cruz Mountains near San Jose, its biggest attractions—literally—are its ancient coast redwoods. Some of these giants are more than 50 feet around and as tall as the Statue of Liberty. At 1,000 to 1,800 years old, some may predate the Roman Empire. The park also offers spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean, and a fascinating natural and cultural history. The park has a number of lush waterfalls, and lots of bird life—including Steller’s jays, egrets, herons and California woodpeckers and variety of habitats (from lush canyon bottoms to sparse chaparral-covered slopes).
Cost is $600.00 per person which includes accommodations, transportation, most meals, and all activities.

What to bring: We highly recommend bringing comfortable and sturdy hiking shoes, comfortable hiking pants and layers, hiking poles if you are used to them, hat, sunscreen, warm jacket (as light weight as possible), a light weight rain gear, and of course your personal hygiene. You can bring your favorite snacks (bring extras to share if you wish), water or drink of your choice, and anything else you are used to having on hikes in nature. We will have specific times for pictures during the hikes so that we can maintain an average steady speed and remain on the schedule. Please come prepared with good hiking shoes and clothing for you own comfort and safety.
Please note that we will be mindful of varying hiking strengths of the participants. Our hikes will generally be moderate. This is not a professional hiking trip, although hiking and spending time in nature is an important part of the program.
